Install OpenFOAM in Windows 10 and Mac OSX

Image
https://www.openfoam.com/download/openfoam-installation-on-windows-10   Be careful. There is another version from openform.org at  https://openfoam.org/version/8/   I have installed the openform.com version, also for Mac OSX. https://www.openfoam.com/download/openfoam-installation-on-mac-using-docker The link below shows the discssions on their differences. https://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/openfoam/197150-openfoam-com-versus-openfoam-org-version-use.html One problem with Simflow iis that the free version restricts the mesh to just 200,000 so it cannot even run a simulation on a cube using the mesh setup used in the car tutorial, in a non-symmetrical way. Need to use symmetry to reduce the number of meshes. Unfortunately, the symmetry halves the Coefficient of Drag values. You can use the instructions in the above link but it does not tell you how to install Ubuntu in Windows 10. You need to enable linux in Windows in the Windows Features setting first, before installing Ubuntu LTS f

Sim-flow CFD

Image
https://sim-flow.com/tutorials/car/ It is a Windows desktop CFD version unlike the original version of Openfoam. It is simpler than SimScale but more difficult than MicroCFD 3D. However, Simflow is more flexible than both of them in creating the tunnel. I have successfully completed this tutorial but it is too simple. Cannot see the pressure graph and cannot find out about  drag. The problem was in monitoring the coefficients. Make sure to set the speed correctly, step 7 in the wing tutorial. The default is 1. https://sim-flow.com/tutorials/wing/ Coefficient of Drag in Simflow.

SimScale Free Online CFD Tutorial

https://www.simscale.com/docs/tutorials/aerodynamic-simulation-vehicle/   An excellent tutorial on how to simulate a car. It includes turning wheels and coefficient of drag.  I was trying to run the above tutorial but it was not successful. There are changes to the program. The most significant was the inability to set the dimension of the tunnel as before. We can only set the width, length and height, no more the starting and ending locations of the width, length and height dimensions. It  means that our model can only be placed at the centre of the tunnel. I failed to run this tutorial. The program is broken because there are too many changes done to it and is not compatible with the tutorial.

3D MicroCFD

Image
https://youtu.be/7NsqrLu9Lz8 I am currently reviewing 3D MicoCFD by using the above tutorial as a guide. It is the easiest 3D simulation that I had done. As I had expected, they took too long. 2D simulation is much faster. I tried using GPU at medium stability, it gave error messages. Similarly with multicore. My CPU is AMD  Fx8320. GPU GTX1650S. When I tried multicore using high stabilty, it ran for more than 12 hours and then crashed. After editing the registry according to the help instructions, 10 step took only 22 minutes, at high stability. However there was a warning of non-convergence.
