See the traditionnal Ackermann steering and suspension links. That steering takes up too much weight and space. Differential braking and vectored steering can replace the steering linkages.

Thi Ecophoton is designed in the same way as the other Solar cars.  The motor looks strange to me. It could an induction motor. I cannot see any magnet at the outer rim. Induction motor is a brushless motor without any permanent magnet so is less efficient. Should be easier to make.

The Netherland teams could be making their own motors but they use heat treated aluminium.

I find watching this video boring but the links are userful and the linked tutorial very helpful.
