Tesla Bought a Silicon Foundry in May 2021?

"In 2020, contract manufacturing only accounted for 9% of Macronix’s revenues. As it became difficult to upgrade the 150-mm fab as well as the company’s decision to focus on the NVM business, last year Macronix decided to sell the fab. The fab has officially halted production in this April. Before it was shut down, its capacity was 20,000 wafers per month. "

This was for 150 nm process. MIMOS used to produce 0.3 micro, or 300 nm process but it stopped. Probably because it was not competitive to TSMC with its 10 nm and less processes.

It was a pity because the chip shortage was in these low resolution processes, i. e. larger than 10 nm.

I find watching this video boring but the links are userful and the linked tutorial very helpful.
